Covid-19 – data and digital

The Eclair Touch Covid-19 app is now being trialled at a community testing centre in Auckland, with the anticipation to roll out the app across testing centres nationwide This allows people tested in community facilities to be accurately identified against their NHI, removing the need to manually complete paper lab request forms which reduces delays in the collection process as well as in the laboratory. Assisting with logistics for testing labs To support surges in testing volumes and to enable balanced workload between diagnostic labs, Eclair provides a broker system which determines which laboratory will process batches of Covid tests. Tracking the transfer of specimens from point of collection to the assigned laboratory is an important part of the solution. Upon arrival at the testing lab, manual data entry is not required as the batch of swabs can be received as an HL7 order message from Eclair. This means swabs can be processed faster and accurately. This solution saves significant time and effort for laboratory testing teams during outbreaks when testing volumes surge.

into the country throughout their managed isolation stay, including the scheduled Covid-19 testing requests and results for national reporting.

Covid-19 testing remains one of our key tools for curbing the spread of the virus and the critically important work of New Zealand’s laboratories, has been highlighted throughout the pandemic. Laboratory facilities are managing thousands of Covid-19 swabs for New Zealand’s population and quarantine facilities and the high volume of tests along with the unique situation has driven the necessity for digitisation, and accelerated a sense of urgency to innovate in this space. The New Zealand response to Covid-19 is a great example of the power of aggregating population testing data and seen excellent innovation to digitise the border management and community testing workflow to the laboratories. At the heart of the population health management solution is the Sysmex Clinical Data Repository (CDR), Eclair which was implemented at the national notifiable disease centre (ESR – Environmental and Scientific Research) as a key initiative for New Zealand government response to the Covid-19 pandemic. New Zealand is also implementing a fully digital, national border system – a collaboration between the MOH and team of industry partners. The paperless border system records and links people’s arrivals

Eclair eOrders - digital test requests Paper-based Covid-19 test orders present many challenges for data accuracy and can delay processing. To minimise these issues, Covid-19 test requests are centralised electronically in the national Eclair repository. eOrders can be created in Eclair for community testing or via an api from the Border Clinical Management System for guests in quarantine facilities. This enables traceability and accuracy for all tests throughout the pre-analytical workflow. Swab Collection app The recently launched Eclair Touch app digitises the collection of Covid-19 test swabs. This accurately links the test order, the patient and the specimen through barcode scanning and confirmation of the identification of the patient. The benefits of going paperless significantly speeding up the collection rounds in the managed quarantine facilities. The most recent adoption in Canterbury quarantine facilities has reported to considerably speed up collection rounds, reducing times from up to four hours to 1.5 hours.
