for each quarter. The Power BI report also allows data-sharing with the research team, swiftly and securely, for in-depth statistical analysis. This is the first time interRAI Services has delivered research data through Power BI. This new approach makes research data accessible to anyone with an interest. It also allows the research team to monitor changes in these key indicators as they happen, so they can act immediately to refine the analysis and methodology. This research is generating a substantial health dataset that could be used for other research in the future. It could also be linked to other health datasets, such as the Ministry of Health’s National Minimum Dataset for public and private hospital discharge information. It is hoped that insights from this study can be shared with other countries that use interRAI, and will help prepare health and social services to respond well to future pandemics. Technical Advisory Services (TAS) interRAI Services, in partnership with the University of Auckland, has reimagined research outputs for the digital age, by using user-friendly data visualisation to publish research results in real time. A group of University of Auckland researchers led by Dr Gary Cheung, an interRAI associate fellow, is examining the impact of Covid-19 on the health and psychosocial status of vulnerable older adults. Their research, called interRAI Covid-19 Study (iCoS) is an observational study that makes use of routinely collected interRAI Home Care (HC) and Contact Assessment (CA) data. Beginning in 2020, they partnered with the TAS Data Services team to make their findings available to the public, using digital tools, as soon as they are analysed.
for use in New Zealand by interRAI Services, part of TAS. TAS is a professional services organisation, providing strategic, advisory and programme management services to the health sector.
interRAI data
All interRAI assessments in New Zealand are completed on a single software platform and fed securely into the TAS data warehouse. The anonymised data may be requested by researchers and policymakers. Through understanding the health needs of older New Zealanders, health providers can plan, allocate resources and evaluate services more effectively.
the iCoS project
interRAI Data Services and the research team co-designed an interactive monitoring report of key health and psychosocial indicators using Microsoft Power BI. The Power BI report provides interactive descriptive statistics to monitor self-reported mood, self-rated health, other health and psychosocial indicators and health services utilisation of those who received an interRAI assessment in the 12 months following Covid-19 Alert Level 4 (25 March 2020). The report is updated as soon as interRAI assessments are completed
what is interRAI?
interRAI is a suite of clinical assessment instruments. interRAI assessments are mandatory in New Zealand, in provision of aged residential care and home and community services for older people living in the community.
